Saddam guilty, opinion "divided"

Saddam found guilty.

Within 24 hours, we get this sort of reportage:

World opinion divided on Saddam sentence

By WILLIAM J. KOLE, Associated Press Writer 39 minutes ago

Saddam Hussein's death sentence was celebrated by some on Sunday as justice deserved or even divine, but denounced by others as a political ploy two days before critical U.S. midterm congressional elections.

Most Intriguing! But when we read Mr. Kole's prose, citing such important organizations as Vatican Cardinal Renato Martino, Vitaya Wisethrat, a "respected Muslim cleric" in Thailand, Spanish Prime Minister Jose Luis "No Mas, No Mas" Rodriguez Zapatero (curiously, quoted concerning the Iraq invasion and not about Hussein at all — a "stock" quote?), the U.N. high commissioner for human rights the Mutahida Majlis-e-Amal coalition, Amnesty International, the Chatham House foreign affairs think tank of London, the Malaysian-based International Movement for a Just World, and the international affairs committee in Russia's State Duma, opinion hardly seems divided at all.

And a note to Mr. Kole: many people — albeit a small percentage — think life started on the Earth as a result of Aliens seeding the planet. Others think The Jews are running the economic world. We don't need to report on the views of ALL crackpot groups, including those who see Hussein's verdict as a "political ploy" orchestrated by the White House. Sheesh — George Bush isn't even Jewish, for one thing.

Crap! Maybe putting Saddam Hussein on trial was a bad idea, after all! There's not one word of positive reaction in this article on "divided" opinion, except from the usual Axis of Evil partners, the Bush, Howard and Blair administrations.

Oh — and "Iran." Evidently the land itself, or the nation as a whole, since Kole declines to elaborate any further. It brings to mind those e-mails Jim Rome gets that are allegedly from "Orenthal," "Raider Nation," "Notre Dame Fan" or "France."

Evidently, even Saddam's victims and their families are spinnig in their graves (this, largely because the families were killed off en masse) over his guilty verdict.

I like this source, the Hindu, better. I dunno; it just feels a little more authentic and less slanty.
