R. I. P. , Mr. President
Went by St. Margaret's Episcopal Church this evening, in my usual forgetful fog. Although public viewing is tomorrow, and — judging from the media camp across highway 74 this evening — promises to be a circus, this evening there were just a few of us approaching the church at about 4:30 pm.
There were more military present than us. Media spotlights, aimed from across the highway, lit the front of St. Margaret's Church. Here is a photo I managed to take, sans flash:
It is altogether fitting, for those who knew Mr. Ford, that his funeral would be held in this, a small, local, unassuming Episcopal church, as when the late Sonny Bono's funeral was held in nearby St. Teresa's Catholic Church.
The hearse out front contained a flag-draped coffin. All personnel were evidently rehearsing the services for tomorrow; that's one of those things that becomes obvious when one thinks about it, but it's not something we usually think about.
