WRYMOUTH EXCLUSIVE: I-70 Westbound, Eisenhower Tunnel, Dec. 30, 2007 Just Before Interstate Closes

Okay, so the maybe 1 inch of snow predicted for Vail, Colorado, with a slight dusting of blowing snow turned into this in under 12 hours later. Of course, we chose to go home through the mountainous Eastern route to save a hundred miles or so and a couple of hours.
We had gone from Denver to Grand Junction from about 10 am to 5 pm, local time. And it snowed throughout all the ranges in Colorado and Utah, and on down the I-15 until we reached Arizona. I drove through Las Vegas, NV, in something of a coma at about 3 am.
And home by 8 am, a total of 22 hours driving.
Looks like we missed the shutting down of the interstates by about 3 hours; travelers we met at the various truck stops and convenience stores heading eastbound on I-70 weren't so lucky, I guess.
Here's the should-be-famed Eisenhower Tunnel, filmed at about 15 mph, along the westbound lanes. Hypnotically, it takes about 10 minutes to traverse its length at that speed.
The tune is Lee Morgan's Sidewinder, which is required listening for any friend of Wry Mouth, and easily in the top 5 Coolest Songs Ever Recorded.
Hope you had a happy 2007 (although I know this is by no means guaranteed — sigh), and Happy New Year to come!
