Stravaigin, Wry Mouth - Style
"Here's tae us, wha's like us!" ~~Scots toast
The Late Dr. Mrs. Wry Mouth has arranged transport for two to the UK for this next week. We shall be stravaigin' aboot London and Edinburgh (Ed-in-burrah), coming back Monday 2/25.
Check out our sister site, Stravaigin About, for travelogue posts written by the Late Dr. Mrs. and her Scots pen-pal. Since both are (a) ridiculously literate and (b) witty, the posts are always worth reading.
The Dr. (who I am required to address as such, even at home) thought it a Good Idea to start our 20th year with a Second Honeymoon-type trip, and I concur with her assessment. Why wait for the 20th anniversary? At that point, you're starting the 21st year, and — well it's just too late. That's all.
So off we go, she having successfully pried me out of my hidey-hole. Those, who know me, know I've pretty much grown up in the Coachella Valley and am truly a "bloom where you are planted" kind of fellow, to a fault. Not a minor fault, either. Rather, a fault not unlike the San Andreas, which runs about 5 miles south of my house, coincidentally.
So for her to get me out of the Valley, let alone the State, Country and (gasp) Continent, is a major coup. Give her some kudos.
I am likely going to be befuddled by British electricity and funnily-shaped wall plugs, so there is a good likelihood I will be off the grid for the week.
But, if I am gazing at the Rosetta Stone, or some ancient wall from Londonium, paying respects to that Isaac Newton guy in Westminster Abbey, or walking up to Edinburgh Castle, I think I'll be okay.
And we will no doubt find some time, in Bonnie Scotland, to raise a pint and say, "here's tae us! Wha's like us?"
I like old stuff, and most of the stuff over there makes Our American stuff (you know, like the city of Washington, DC) look young and fresh by comparison.*
Pray for our safe return, and see you on the flip side.
*I know, I know — our stuff is usually Bigger and Newer (thanks, Texans and Alaskans!), or just Bigger (Grand Canyon, Mississippi River).

Have a great time, WM! I'll be here being all envious and like that.
I'll be waiting to hear back from you - and we'll try to keep the blog from becoming too stale.
