Obama rather tellingly said:
comments Obama made privately at a fundraiser in San Francisco last Sunday. He explained his troubles winning over working class voters, saying they have become frustrated with economic conditions:

"It's not surprising, then, they get bitter, they cling to guns or religion or antipathy to people who aren't like them or anti-immigrant sentiment or anti-trade sentiment as a way to explain their frustrations."
And then, later:

Democrat Barack Obama on Saturday conceded that comments he made about bitter working class voters who "cling to guns or religion" were ill chosen...

"I didn't say it as well as I should have," he said. ...

Too late! Like John Kerry's unfortunate remarks re: the military, the ridiculers are out in force. And this is the result:
