Floating Head: An Allegory for the End of School Years
And so, with the graduation of the latest crop of seniors but a few days away, I salute their loquacious irreverency across the curriculum with "Floating Head."
A word of warning: this Little Scene is probably not safe for impressionable youngsters. Wrymette found it, in her wanderings through the YouTube Universe, and compelled us to watch it.
I probably find it more funny than she, at this point. It was "Wednesday" that got me.
The Codger, or any observant person, may see the writing behind the wall: how we get attached, sometimes, to Things That May Not Be Good For Us.
But I am taking a slightly different tack: Let the Floating Head be the senior class of '08, and the bachelor guy myself. On that foundation, Monday and Tuesday are the normal day-to-day of the school year, Wednesday will represent this Friday (one day after graduation ceremony), Thursday and Friday my summer, and Saturday and Sunday? Well, hopefully, when we meet again, more as contemporaries than teacher and student.
My 7th graders may take heart: this reminds me of them, too. ;o/

I like the Kubrick/Shining style title cards, with the low bass note. And yes, Wednesday is a hoot.
Leave it to you, wry, to glean a deeper meaning from what to me would have been a mere goof. You've got a real talent for that, or else I don't. Or both. Anyway, it's why I like reading your posts.
Have a great summer - the floating head will be back before you know it.

I am identifying with Friday. I think I need an evil floating head to jump out of the fridge as a pavlovian response to my hand reaching for the cartonz of ice-cream. His family could take up residence in the rest of the food cupboards. Then I could just eat beans on toast in cafes, and not feel guilty about being a lousy cook. :o)
I am glad Evil Floating Head had an amicable side, tho he did show signs all along, of being a bit of a drip. ;oD
Cog - yeah, it is a neat sub-text! I would have just recoiled then guffawed too, and not looked deeper. Shades of Guy De Maupassant's Le Horla,in this vid, but with a debatably happy ending.
A good one to ponder, in quieter moments today. Thanks, Wry and Wrymette.

Wry - if Thursday and Friday are yer summer, does this mean yer pinin tae return tae wurk ae day efter feenishin aff? When eh wiz teachin, wiz crossin aff the days till the end o term, way back in Febyooary. Then spent maist o the summer frettin aboot huvvin tae go back. And wir talkin committed professhionul here. ;o) Yer skail and schoodents soond braw.
Enjoy yer seeven weekies! (And mair, if ye git mair.)
I am looking to get back into teaching, and not just for the holidays. Hope some school out there is looking for a reconditioned English teacher, returned to factory settings, with just a few scratches on the screen. Significant signs of wear and tear comensurate with ill-use. Still just about charges. Unmerited Motorhead ringtones. Some lapses and freezage, but once guaranteed working.
