Senator Obama's pick of Joe Biden as running mate means Senator McCain doesn't have to make a reactionary pick, as Biden adds nothing and may in fact bring more baggage than he can carry.

In essence, didn't Senator Obama just pick a McCain figure* as his running-mate? How's that going to figure into the ads:

Why vote for one when you can have both? OBAMA / BIDEN 2008...

Relax, Senator McCain. Pick whomever you want, and just make it a sane choice. A non-senator would be very good. ... The ball is in your court; don't panic.

* I know this is not literally the case; McCain is a liberal-leaning fiscal Conservative, whereas Biden is — what — the 3rd-most leftist Senator? To go with Obama's 1st-most leftist ranking?  That's their move toward the center?
