Politics: Join a Union, Because In a Union, All Members Believe in Exactly the Same Things!

Not limited to Californianing, actually, but here's one of the first articles to hit my eye this evening, a day after the AFL-CIO sent me a lovely, 16-page, full-color glossy "analysis" of the POTUS race, in which it is revealed that 100% of the union membership think Senator Obama is 100% correct, and Senator McCain is 100% Bad for America!

With results like that, who needs Saddam Hussein's Iraq? We should have saved a trillion dollars and let the union take over Iraq... the election results would not have varied from Saddam's, and the revenue streams for the unions and the mob would have been out of this world!

Why would anyone want to belong to an organization that takes money from half of its members, to campaign against those members' cherished family, religious and political beliefs? Or do they really expect me to believe that every member of the Union in question holds the same worldview as the president of the Union?

What are the odds?

Anyhoo:
The California Teachers Assn. donated $1 million this week to defeat a ballot initiative seeking to ban same-sex marriage in California, joining the ranks of wealthy gay rights activists and Hollywood politicos as one of the major donors to the campaign.
"For us, it's a civil rights issue," said the association's President David Sanchez. "We don't believe people should be treated differently."
Note again, how these allegedly tolerant, liberal and free-thinking people define "us":

"US," evidently, means "Me," backed by maybe a half million or so other peoples' money.

Is it surprising, given that the California Supreme Court judges who backed Gavin Newsome's bid to speak for "us" defined "us" the same way?

I used to be compelled to give union dues to the teacher's union as a public school teacher. This sort of behavior, this monolithic, tyrranical, intolerant behavior by the so-called "leaders" of the union, is just one on my list of Many Reasons I Am Glad To Be a Private School Teacher.*

** not surprisingly, none of the reasons have anything to do with the students at public schools...
