The Proposition 8 Wars: Unity > Freedom
Not mentioned in the AP story: eHarmony is a private business, not a governmental agency. The creators of the business were trying to "find a niche and fill it." Now the government has compelled them to expend time and resources developing service to a business niche they had no desire to fill.Garden State resident Eric McKinley filed a complaint against the online matchmaker in 2005.
TRENTON, N.J. - Online dating service eHarmony ... will begin providing same-sex matches as part of a settlement with New Jersey's Civil Rights Division.
Under terms of the settlement, the company can create a new or differently named Web site for homosexual singles. The company can also post a disclaimer saying its compatibility-based matching system was developed from research of married heterosexual couples.
I told you earlier: the Proposition 8 haters are going to win, and soon. The protests and "Days Without Gays" are unnecessary wastes of emotion and energy. Bide your time, folks... the judiciary will do your work for you. In both the private and public sectors.
"Unity," we have decided, is more important than "Freedom."
Not news, I know, the government telling private enterprises how to run their businesses, but now the metastasizing of the "nationalization" philosophy has possibly crossed the tipping-point.
Did you ever wonder what it would be like to live in a socialist country? Wait three years.

In other news, I am confident some state or federal judge will order Neiman-Marcus to start stocking Wal-Mart-level items, and of course baseball teams will be ordered to begin stocking football souveniers. Cinnabonn will have to stock salads...
