Californianing: California's Bold Economic Leadership: A Budget at Last -- Or A Last Budget?
Yeh; it's true. The political wrecking of the economic structure of the country is happening at such a hurry-up-and-buy rate, that I wouldn't be surprised to find out that Vince Offer (the Sham-Wow! guy) was writing speeches for Majority Leaders Pelosi and Reid:
Speaker Pelosi: "... are you followin' me, camera-guy? I dunno — this stimmilus package sells itself!"
Doubtless, I'll be focusing on theology and philosophy for awhile, because those things, when they move at all, move with slow, balletic grace. The current set of "leaders" on Capital Hill, on the other hand, move with all the slow, balletic grace of a bag of hammers falling down a muddy hillside. On fire.
So, I'll probably turning my back on that. Anything I could say will probably be said better by the Infinite Monkeys, anyway, or When Evil Prospers, Are We Lumberjacks or the Hillbilly White Trash.
Nevertheless, since we here in California are proud of being a "bellweather" state in things social and things economic, I have to publish Michael Ramirez' cartoon which tidily sums up the California political "fixing" of our lovely state's economy as only a skillful political cartoonist can:
All I can say is, try not to let what happened to us happen to you. Some in California like to think of us as pioneers and cutting-edge progressives.
I tend to think of us as sober warnings and cautionary proverbs.
We once were in the top ten national economies in the world, and we were only a state. We once were the breadbasket of the world, of unparalleled opportunity and ecological diversity. Now we are hemorrhaging to death, slumped over. Pity us, and learn.
