Californianing: When It Comes To Your Earnings, The Government Giveth, and

My State Broke Itself, and All I Got Was This Lousy Icon

... the government taketh away.

I'll let local boys the ExUrban League discuss Mr. Obama's latest stump-stop in Arizona...

for us in California, suffice to say: what the Federal Gubmint deems fit to return to us in the form of "tax breaks" (Thanks, Mr. Government Official! You mean, you're going to let me keep some of the money you would normally take from me, and call it a gift? Thanks!!) the State Gubmint deems fit for the taking, in the form of higher personal and sales taxes, among other things.

I will, however, salute Rep. Abel Maldonado:
"This is not about my political career. This is about the health and safety for the people of California," Maldonado said. "My friends, this might be the end for me. This ensures it's not the end for California."
I think he's misguided, but I have to give him credit for sticking with his conscience.

Well.

Shh! At least the 12-cent-per-gallon gas tax didn't get through! Shhh!

Wry - Isn't it nice to have the Speaker of the House from your state? Did you notice California won the "pork" contest?

I am routinely ashamed of my state's senators -- I don't even want California's senators to be from California... so, no. I am not really "proud" of our state's speaker. Or the pork. Or our governor accepting aid from the federales, as if that's a long-term solution to the ennui here in the Golden State.

Putting California Democrats in high places of political power is asking for trouble, it seems... if you have to go with Democrats, get them from Texas or South Dakota or some other place where they are less inbred. In my opinion.

Federal political candidates should actually be granted 500,000 votes (like a "superdelegate" kind of thing) if they are from states that are within 3 percentage points of being 50-50 states (half GOP, half Democratic).

Wry - Dr. Bob has a point. Being married to someone who hires gov't employees, they are told to deliver the moon and paid less than market value. The old saying "You get what you pay for" comes to mind.

On an un-related subject: as admin of Founders League, you need to register and send out emails to folks. March 28th looks like a good draft date. I would have normally sent this note electronically but your gmail account is bad.
