New 2009 Washington DC Quarter Issued!
I just got one of these babies in my change, and they sure are smart-looking!
The obverse features the smaller Washington profle, with the "trinity" of USA mottos; the reverse has a nice bas-relief rendering of Marion Barry, some cocaine, and a hooker.

Now, sadly, the truth is they put The Duke (Ellington) on the back, along with the motto "And Justice For All."
But I'm thinking: okay, if you want to put the "and justice for all" line there, in deference to your sizable Black (and, I suppose, other humans) population percentage. However -- Ellington is going to serve as your representative Successful Black Person here?
I love Ellington, and his composing/playing chops, and (especially) his class in the face of truly institutional racism of his day, but I wonder if there's another Successful Black Person who might be even more striking, original and appropriate for the Washington DC quarter?
Benjamin Banneker?
