Californianing: Online Textbooks?

Online textbooks?
Bring 'em — well — on!

Backpacks aren't like they were in the olden days... nowadays, I've seen kids toting literal suitcases behind them in the hall, to deal with the spate of "doorstop" textbooks they have to handle in a day. Lockers overstuffed look more like Jenga stacks.

Sure, I WANT a textbook like my pa's: just large enough not to fit in one's back pocket. But I don't think they make those anymore. CD or Kindle texts (which I had suggested) or online texts are the next good idea; the kids don't mind reading off of a screen. And I don't mind Kindles at all.

I have never had a textbook that was larger than my back pocket. I am using my 25 year old calculus book now and it clocks in at over 5 pounds. Digital texts (usually in PDF format) have actually been around for 10 years but not widespread as most colleges didn't have the infrastructure to support them, but they have become popular at some of the more forward thinking schools. The two biggest texboot publishers has already start to release some books for the Kindle.

Well... yeah. You're not my dad. Hello!

Come over to the school; I'll show you his geometry textbook. It fits comfortably in my (admittedly slightly oversized) hand.
